Mail Order Zombie: Episodes 046-048 [24 Dec 2008|04:02pm]

brother_d73
Episode 046

There are Headshots a'plenty in this week's episode of Mail Order Zombie. Brother D takes a good and hard (and sometimes mean) look at the movies Zombiez, Catholic Ghoulgirls and Zombie Apocalypse before diving into this week's Feedback Discussion with Miss Bren. We'll also sneak in a few diary entries into the mix - Zombie Farmer submitted a few days' worth of journaling detailing how she would handle living in a zombie reality.

Special thanks to everyone who called in to wish Brother D a happy birthday this week. At the time of Episode 46's recording, we'd received email greetings, a Disneyland recording from Need-a-Nickname Scott (from The Disney, Indiana Podcast), forum posts, Tweets, voicemails, an E-card and even a special message from one of the lead actors from an Uncle Romero classic!

Episode 047

We lost track of how many headshots we gave out this week on Mail Order Zombie! Brother D reviews John Saxon's only turn in the director's chair when he takes a look at Zombie Death House, and then Miss Bren fires off some headshots of her own when she joins Brother D for a discussion of Dead Set. Mail Order Zombie Family members Jay and Mathew also send in reviews of their own (taking a look at Resident Evil: Degeneration and Waxwork II: Lost in Time respectively). But it's not just movie reviews this week - Billy Garberina, actor-director of the 4-Headshot-rated Necroville spends some time with Mail Order Zombie this week to talk about movie-making, why no-budgetters might be drawn to zombies and how you can't always trust the IMDB. The winners for the trade paperbacks of The Walking Dead are announced as well.

Episode 048

Happy Holidays, everyone! In Episode 48 of Mail Order Zombie, after Brother D hits the weekly zombie news and sightings in the Zombie Beat, he and Miss Bren catch up on Feedback that's been building up at MOZ Central over the past few weeks. In the midst of this Feedback Discussion special, Brother D announces a new contest for the Mail Order Zombie Family.

Mail Order Zombie: Episode 045 [10 Dec 2008|06:21pm]

Mail Order Zombie: Episode 045
Mail Order Zombie: Episode 045.5 - Zombie Beat

This week on Mail Order Zombie, the movie Day X steps up for its MOZ treatment, and instead of a second movie review, we review a comic. Miss Bren just read Volume 1 of The Walking Dead trade paperbacks, so she sits down with Brother D to talk about it (as well as sneaking in a few words about what she's read of Volume 2 so far!). The contest for The Zombie Diaries has come to an end, and the winners are announced, and because we like giving things away (and we have very generous members of the Mail Order Zombie Family who have hooked us up with such great swag!), we'll slip in the launch of a new contest this week, too! We go over the week's emails and voicemails in the weekly Feedback Discussion and add another country to the MOZ World Domination plans when we hear from a new listener in a country we've not heard from before. We also learn why Brother D has started carrying a screwdriver with him everywhere he goes.

Mail Order Zombie: Episodes 043 & 044 [27 Nov 2008|10:38am]

brother_d73
Mail Order Zombie: Episode 043

Brother D uses the words "bunny rabbit" way too much this week in Episode 43 of Mail Order Zombie. A bunny rabbit makes its way through one of the three movies he reviews - The Forever Dead, Storm of the Dead and Dead Country. Two members of the Mail Order Zombie family contribute reviews of their own, bringing the review total to four-and-a-half (!) this week. In the middle of all these reviews, Brother D talks about how to get the most amount of movies for the least amount of money, and we launch a new contest in this episode! We have four copies of a 5-Headshot-rated movie to give away! Miss Bren also swings by for the weekly Feedback Discussion, and we're still accepting answers for the current Zombie Aptitude Test question. Can you handle the bunny rabbit? Can you handle the zombies? Can you handle Episode 43?

Mail Order Zombie: Episode 044

Two more movies and a videogame get some attention this week in Episode 44 of Mail Order Zombie. Many, many moons ago, a member of the Mail Order Zombie Family asked Brother D about a movie he found in the discount bin at his local Wal-Mart. The movie? 2004's Death Valley: The Revenge of Bloody Bill. And this week, Brother D finally reviews it. And more recently, another MOZ Family member asked about the movie Rome Against Rome, so Brother D reviews this movie this week as well. A new contributor joins the family to review the videogame Left 4 Dead, and Miss Bren does her best to keep a straight face when she gets a series of strange phone calls while reading emails in this week's Feedback Discussion.

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Mail Order Zombie - Episodes 038-042 (including Munchies 001!) [14 Nov 2008|07:06pm]

brother_d73
(While I kept the show going week-after-week, I fell behind on announcing them here. No time like the present to catch up!)

Episode 038

Brother D is doing his best to not become a zombie himself, so while he's fighting off the crud that has taken residence inside his nasal cavity and throat, Miss Bren steps up and runs the show! Both Brother D and Miss Bren were guests at the 2008 Revenant Film Festival, so you will hear a little bit from Brother D as he covers that event (with a special guest appearance by another Northwest podcaster!), and Miss Bren takes this opportunity to clear through the backlog of emails and voicemails here at MOZ Central. She also announces the winner of The Vanguard DVD contest, and announces the next Mail Order Zombie contest starting with this week's episode. The current Zombie Aptitude Test answers are revealed and a new ZAT question is posed to the Mail Order Zombie family. (And thanks to Corey Graham of The Midnight Podcast for sending in a recording that does nothing but further the Is-He-Or-Isn't-He? discussion!)

Episode 039

Miss Bren rocked it last week, didn't she? She kept the show going and microphone warm, and now Brother D is back, firing on almost all cylinders and rocking Episode 39 of Mail Order Zombie. The review content is high this week: Miss Bren and Brother D review Episodes 2 and 3 of Zombie Hunters: City of the Dead, Dave from the Cheap and Dirty Podcast reviews the comic Dead Space, the movies Zombie Wars and Dance of the Dead get the Mail Order Zombie treatment, and four listeners submit reviews of their own as well! Answers for the current Zombie Aptitude Test are still being collected, as are entries for the contest to win your own copy of the book Zombie Movies: The Ultimate Guide by Glenn Kay. Check it out!

MOZ Presents: The Munchies 001 - The 2008 H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival

For Brother D, October doesn't "officially" start until the weekend of the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival. In this one-part review, one-part blog, he reflects on the festival, talks about what he liked, what he didn't like, and what he hopes to have happen between now and next year's festival. Oh, and he tells you what not to order at Tony Starlight's. Ia! Ia! Cthulhu f'thagn!

Episode 040

Another week, another episode of Mail Order Zombie! This week, Brother D pushes the limits and explores all new depths in zombie cinema when he reviews House of the Dead, House of the Dead 2: No Guts, No Glory and the Director's Cut of House of the Dead, the Funny version . . . all at once. To try to keep his sanity, he also (inspired by the award-nominated Outside the Cinema podcast) presents his Top 5 List of Best Zombie Movies to Play at Your Halloween Party (and then Bill from Outside the Cinema decides to drop by with a list of his own!), and if that's not enough to help keep Brother D straight, one of the MOZ Family helped out by calling in a quick review of a kinda-sorta zombie movie released by Full Moon a few years ago. Maybe that wasn't enough to keep Brother D level-headed because he does make a phone call this week (NOT to Netflix!) that may get him in trouble down the line! Miss Bren drops by for the weekly Feedback Discussion, and the answers to the current ZAT question are gone over before a new question is posed to the family. Also, we're still running that contest to give away one of three copies of the book Zombie Movies: The Ultimate Guide by Glenn Kay - listen to the episode to learn how you can win!

Episode 041

In this week's episode of Mail Order Zombie, Brother D tries to wash the taste of House of the Dead out of his mouth with two more DVD reviews. The DVD releases of Zombie Strippers and Hoodoo for Voodoo are reviewed this week, and Brother D and Miss Bren venture away from the TV screen for some theatrical kinda-sorta zombie action when they finally watch Quarantine and share their thoughts with the Mail Order Zombie family (pay attention - Brother D and Miss Bren disagree on a key point about Quarantine!). We finally announce some contest winners - three listeners will walk away from this episode of Mail Order Zombie with their own copies of Zombie Movies: The Ultimate Guide by Glenn Kay. Even though we had to record this week's Feedback Discussion earlier than normal, we have plenty of material to get through, and we've got all the other features and fun you've come to expect from Mail Order Zombie. Let's do it!

Episode 042
A Mail Order Zombie first! A zombie moviemaker swings by for an interview when co-writer/co-director of The Zombie Diaries Michael Bartlett swings by for a chat with Brother D. We also discover that country music is truly evil when we review the movie Trailer Park of Terror and watch Trace Adkins play the devil! Our Feedback Discussion runs a bit longer than normal this week because we had so many birthday wishes from the Mail Order Zombie family to Miss Bren! Thanks for sending those along! The submitted answers to the current Zombie Aptitude Test questions are reviewed, and a new ZAT question is posed to the Family this week, and we have the week's zombie news in the Zombie Beat.

Zomb 2.7 [29 Oct 2008|03:26pm]

princessicana
[ mood | excited ]

In Grand Rapids tonight there is going to be a nationally televised game of Zomb...

Zomb: A one hour long after-dark 450+ man game of a large scale reenactment of a Zombie outbreak with Nerf guns, with the objective of the game being to survive.

We meet up before the game inside Cascade Park(3810 Thornapple River Drive SE, GR MI 49546) at 8:00PM. Bring a Nerf weapon (no melee weapons) so you can play on either side, don't show up without a gun. Humans work in squads and fight off the waves of zombies by shooting them with a Nerf weapon. When shot, a zombie is only temporarily paralyzed for TWO minutes, at which point he can rise up and attempt to kill again. If a human is two hand touched by a zombie, he joins the zombies and begins the fight on their side. Humans attempt to survive, which is increasingly difficult with time, for two hours before trying to escape inside the helipads.

Human: Bring any kind of Nerf weapon, easily found at Meijer’s, Wal-Mart, etc. No paintball, airsoft, or Nerf Melee weapons allowed. When we meet inside Cascade Park before the game starts, you’ll join a squad of other humans who you’ll work together to survive, these people are your brothers. For the MOST fun, bring as many friends as possible, playing with friends makes this game great. Zombies and Humans will separate and the game begins. You must fight and evade the zombies for one hour; you lose and are turned into a zombie if you are two-hand touched. Humans may not camp for more then two minutes. To signal the last five minutes, an air horn will be blown; at this point you should attempt to enter the helipads (read Game Ending Below). If you can battle through the zombies and make it inside, you are a Master of Zomb.

Zombie: You don’t need any weapons at all. You’ll work in large hordes (Bring your friends for the most fun) with other players to win. If you’re shot don’t worry, just stay where you are for two minutes, and then join the fight again. Be careful of pavement. Protect the helipads as the last five minutes arrive.

Game ending: Two helipads are staked down to the ground inside the park, the job of the humans is to attempt to fight their way inside the helipad, and zombies to stop them. Zombies should have about 5-10 feet of distance between themselves and the helipad. Helipads are only accessible in the last 5 minutes of game play, which will be sounded by an air horn.

Starts at Eight PM sharp! Park at 3260 Thornapple River Dr Se Grand Rapids, MI 49546-9137.
It's a bit of a walk, but that's what the people who organized this want us to do. I know this is last minute, but the truth is it is last minute for me too, just got a message about it today.

It should be really fun, but if you can't make it, tomorrow there is a zombie walk! It is at Rosa Parks Circle 132 Monroe Center St. NW, 49503 Grand Rapids, MI

Zombie Walk: A Massive mob of people dressed as Zombies walking together as a massive horde in downtown Grand Rapids on October 30th at 9PM starting at Rosa Parks Circle in grand celebration of Halloween. "Zombie" Outfits are as basic as you want, white t shirts with some ketchup = perfect.

We are doing a charity thing with canned food, so bring some and join us in a nice walk. :)
Also, Pittsburg holds the record of how many zombies they have on the zombie walk...We have to beat them!!!

That's about all I have at the moment, hopefully some of you can come to one. :)

That was at zomb 2.6...yeah, I'm pretty short, but there I am! It's tons of fun guys!

Mail Order Zombie - Episode 036 & 037 [12 Oct 2008|09:19am]

brother_d73
One DVD (The Vanguard), one CD (The Dead Matter: Cemetery Gates) and one table top game (Humans!) get a little attention in Episode 36 of Mail Order Zombie (thanks to Lord Dward from Plan 9 From Cyberspace!). Not only do you get to hear these reviews, you also get to hear every ringtone Bren has on her cell phone as she proves just how popular she is when she's interrupted several times while reading y'all's Feedback this week. In addition to the Name-That-Zombie-Movie contest that launched last week, a new contest kicks off for a copy of one of the items reviewed this week, and we're still taking answers for the current Zombie Aptitude Test question.

Episode 036

We didn't intend for Episode 37 to be so Feedback-heavy when we started, but we have so much great discussion-fodder, Bren and Brother D just couldn't help themselves. Before the Feedback Avalanche hits, though, Brother D sneaks in a review of Night of the Living Dorks, and a few members of the Mail Order Zombie Family members also sent in their thoughts of the movie as well. The contest for The Vanguard is still running, and we scour the interweb for zombie news and sightings in this week's Zombie Beat. And because it's his show and he said so, Brother D is extending the Zombie Aptitude Test question one more week, so you still have time to get your ZAT answers in. (Special thanks to Scott and Tracey from Disney, Indiana for the Harry Manfredini audio!)

Mail Order Zombie - Episode 035 [27 Sep 2008|10:58am]

Episode 35 of Mail Order Zombie brings the goods with a review of Zombies! Zombies! Zombies!, but Brother D doesn't let this movie's headshots stop him. He cracks open the new book Zombie Movies: The Ultimate Guide by Glenn Kay, and he tracks down Geoff Bough from Revenant: The Premiere Zombie Magazine to talk about the 2008 Revenant Film Festival. (Thanks to Geoff for the interview!) A few Zombie Aptitude Test answers from the previous ZAT question slipped through the cracks last week, so Brother D goes over these, and Bren joins us for the weekly Feedback Discussion (and manages to sneak in a new contest right in the middle of everyone's emails and voicemails!).

The winner of the American Zombie DVD contest is announced, and Bren jumps in for another Feedback Discussion. Zombies in Alaska [14 Sep 2008|12:26pm]

cinnamonbite
Seriously!

"June 13th, 2008
3:36 pm
As I was walking to work this afternoon, I saw a woman get hit by a truck on her bicycle a little bit before Balaine lake. I was like "WTF was that?!". The guy in the truck did stop, but the weirdest thing happened.

People were gathered around her, and then all of a sudden they all backed up in surprise. I was across the street by Army road, so I had a good view. The lady totally jumped up and took a chunk out of the truck drivers neck. He starts screaming, and covers his neck which was shedding blood pretty bad. The lady stands up and runs in to Ballaine trail head.

So the guy with the big gaping wound in his neck, gets in to his truck and drives off. I have no idea where the hell to woman went, but her bike was still in the middle of the road, and there was a nice pool of blood.

We heard sirens and thought the cops and ambulance were coming our way, they're right at UAF afterall. But the Sirens stopped short, so I start walking up the bike path a little bit, and damned if the truck the guy just took off in was plowed right in to the UAF sign on Tanana Loop. It's trashed.

After seeing what happened with the woman, I didn't go any further. I walked back home and grabbed the car. The cops still have the road completely blocked off.

I wonder WTF is going on?

3:49 pm

Good God!
When I got in to work, there were 7 EAS alerts waiting. Holy crap, something big is going on. I'll update more when I find out more.

4:47 pm

EAS Alerts
---The Fairbanks Police Department along with the Alaska State Troopers have issued a warning for those living within in a mile 10 mile radius of Ballaine Lake and Farmer's Loop Rd.. Residents are advised to remain in their homes or in a place of safety until further notice.---

I've been getting calls every half-hour or so asking me if we've been airing the EAS alerts.

There have been helicopters flying over my office (which is on campus) to the North. I tried calling the FPD PIO, and I got put on a contact list. He said he wasn't making any comments at the moment, but when he does, everyone on the list will be called at the same time. Like a conference call.

I also called FMH about the guy in his truck, but they said they never received a patient with a bite wound to the neck. I wonder if they took him on base?"

Two more movies, and a horror score gets a little Mail Order Zombie love this week in Episode 33 of Mail Order Zombie. Bone Sickness (originally scheduled to appear on Episode 32) finally gets its headshots, and Gangs of the Dead stands by it to take its hits as well. One of these movies almost made Brother D sick, and the other one gets a few mini-reviews from members of the Mail Order Zombie family. Brother D points his ears at Cliff Bradley's score from the film Undead, and in the second half of the episode, Bren stops by to discuss everyone's Feedback. There are two contests running right now, and the current Zombie Aptitude Test question is still open!

American Zombie gets its headshots this week in Episode 32 of Mail Order Zombie. Bone Sickness was originally scheduled to appear this week as well, but unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances have forced us to push back this movie's review at least another week. Because we've had some Real Life Bumps, Bren and Brother D spend more time on Feedback this week more than anything else after the American Zombie review. Also, listeners will have a chance to win a DVD in another Mail Order Zombie contest!

We care about the children. That's not to say we want you to let your children listen to Episode 31 of Mail Order Zombie (Bren's got a potty mouth sometimes!), but we do want to help you decide if When Good Ghouls Go Bad is appropriate for your children. Additionally, Brother D wants to help you decide if Sabbath (part of the Mortuary of Madness 50 Movie Pack from Mill Creek Entertainment) is appropriate for your DVD player. You can also expect all the regular Mail Order Zombie features (The Zombie Beat, Listener Feedback and the Zombie Aptitude Test) this week as well. (And make sure you stick around for at the end of the show to hear what certain wiseacres/friends of the show went and did, thinking they were funny . . . grumble, grumble . . . !)

Baron Von Goolo wants YOU! [20 Aug 2008|01:31am]

goddessmikhail
Is Halloween your favorite holiday? Or do you just get a huge kick out of
dressing up and scaring the holy h-e-double-hell out of people? Then you
might want to hang out at FrightTown this September and October.

The FrightTown haunted house is the biggest and scariest haunted house in
the whole Portland metro, and we'll be reopening our doors at the Portland
Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, October 4, for a whole new season of thrills
and screams. Not too many people realize that all that horror is actually a
non-profit production by the 1031 Community Theatre - and every year about
this time we look far and wide for the best and scariest new volunteers we
can find. We have positions for actors, set decorators, set builders, makeup
artists, costume designers and more, for every level of experience from rank
amateur to polished pro. And since we're a local non-profit arts collective,
if your school or company has some sort of community service requirement, we
can help you meet it by scaring the crap out of people. That's a good deal.

Preparations have already begun and we'll be starting Scare School training
soon. Go to 1031theatre.org or frighttown.com for more details, or if you
want to sign up, click on the banner below.

Happy Halloween!

Mail Order Zombie - Episode 029 [16 Aug 2008|08:30pm]

brother_d73
Y'all know the routine - this week in Episode 29 of Mail Order Zombie, Brother D sits down with two more movies to review. The Zombie Chronicles takes it Headshots, and the Living Dead Lock Up saga comes to a close with Living Dead Lock Up 3: Siege of the Dead. In addition to reviewing Living Dead Lock Up 3, Brother D is also going to look back at the entire trilogy and offer a few thoughts on the viewing experience of these three no-budgeters. Bren pops in to go over everyone's Feedback where we hear from a special friend of the show who may or may not have had his hometown overrun with zombies. We're still taking answers for the current Zombie Aptitude Test question, but we start the show out with a solid dose of news in this week's Zombie Beat.

The Living Dead Lock Up saga continues as Brother D reviews Living Dead Lock Up 2: March of the Dead in Episode 28 of Mail Order Zombie; the movie Dead Creatures will also get its headshots this week. The headshot count this week is low, but the number of news items in this week's Zombie Beat is high with zombie movie, game and theatre news. Bren stops by to take a bite out of the Listener Feedback, and we go over the current Zombie Aptitude Test answers before going over the next ZAT question (which was submitted by one of the listeners!). Also, Dave from the Cheap and Dirty Podcast has his own theory as to how the original Night of the Living Dead became the well-known and -loved classic that it is. (This week's show is a little lighter than normal, but next week we'll be back up to 100-minutes-or-so - I promise!)
